I was taking my brother in law to Lucille's and as we drove past the Supreme Court he said...
"For an Islamic country Egyptians sure do take pride in pagen culture."
I thought it was brilliant.
:o)
(Mechanical Crowds.. no mention of driving in this post!)

Well,
For an Islamic country Egyptians sure do take pride in a lot of things they shouldn't probably be taking pride in. Egyptians usually tend to want to be everything that they are not and they cannot be, trying to lose any identity we have and at the end of the day all we end up being are nothings and I guess that is evident in everything in Egypt from the day to day events of our lives to our Economic and political status.
GBK,
You are right. Loss of identity is sad....
Egypians like to brag, and what's better to brag about than those pyramids and temples?
I don't agree on this loss of identity thing, I don't even know we have a sepcific identity that we lost.
Marooned,
I think he meant that we are imitating other cultures to try to be cool or civilized and while we do so, we lose sight of the greatness that we are!
Egyptians are bragging about what was done in this country thousands of years ago....
they also brag about Mahfouz winning the Nobel prize where all they know of his is the movies. they just like to brag, of what is of no importance, and usually they find something to brag about.
marooned,
I agree.
