Banking in Egypt sucks!!!
I had another issue with the bank that I have been forced to become a customer of. The bank that my work has forced us into being fucked by!
Well, actually.. not another issue. The same issue again! No matter what I do they cannot and will not fix the issues.
They are a group of idoits and I hate them. I hate having to deal with them!
I was bitter... I told them. I told them that I think they are fucking idiots..
I told them that their system is horrible. That their customer service is evil.
I told them everything!
I also withdrew all my money today. They did not look at my passport. They had no problem with the fact that the signature I signed on the paper is not the signature they have in their file. Apparently, that does not matter at a bank anymore!!
I am not sure what I would need to take money from them.
I guess any upset women in a bank can just go get cash and leave!
I told her that.. I told her that they did not even look at my ID.. She did not even understand why I thought that that was not right.
She did tell me that the system will change... that it will be good soon!! I do not know if that was supposed to make me happy or what.
It just made me sad..

:-))) One of those Cairo moments? I used to bank w/ HSBC in Cairo (and later Societe General) just like you: because my employer had chosen them. I had a standing order w/ HSBC to change my Egyptian pounds to dollars and send money to a bank account in the US every month (student loan). When they couldn't get a hold of the $$, what did they do? Nothing. They didn't send the money. They didn't call me. Nothing. Amazing...makes me think HSBC can't be trusted anywhere outside of the UK/Canada.
I have a very good solution for you guys, why don't you go back to the beautiful countries were you came from????? where pre-marital sex is everywhere, women are abused, school shootings, athiesm, using women to sell products, invading other countries, corrupt politicians, child abused by their parents, relatives, and priests, and the list goes on.....I think Egypt will be better off without you..they always say positive changes start from the home, try and do that in your home and circle of friends and may be things will get better.....
if you want to help Egypt, stop negativity on the Internet, that COULD bring in more tourists and investors, and eventually things get better. If we trash Egypt on the Internet, we are adding to the problem and not fixing it...Anyway what satisfaction do you get by publishing all this negativity???
by the way, this is Sherif, I am not going to publish this as Anonymous because this is so upsetting....I live in the US and LOVE IT, but that did not make me an Egypt hater.....
Sherif, you assume too much. First of all, I am not Egyptian. I have lived in Egypt, among other countries. My husband is Egyptian. If I had my choice, we would actually be living in Egypt right now. Does that mean I love everything about it? Does that mean it's all roses? Absolutely NOT, but I do love many things about the country. Go visit my blog where I have no issues criticising my own home country on a regular basis. You take someone's venting about a bad day in Egypt as some personal attack on the nation's progress. If Egypt wants more tourists and more investors, I refuse to bear that responsiblilty on her behalf. As my post said, it sounded like Nora has "one of those Cairo moments" in which the normal shield of tolerance is dropped for a rant.
"where pre-marital sex is everywhere, women are abused, school shootings, athiesm, using women to sell products, invading other countries, corrupt politicians, child abused by their parents, relatives, and priests, and the list goes on....."
You really need to get back to Egypt to discover what's become of your nation if you think that premarital sex, domestic violence, objectification of women (particularly young girls), and sexual molestation don't happen. It's very unrealistic to think that Egypt doesn't have those issues and other countries do (presumably you're implying 'the west').
I hate them too; only I'm a client of 3 other banks and sadly can't claim it to be any better. If you know what the account number is, you can pretty much walk away with all the money there!!!!!!!
I found that Societe General often refused my transactions based on the fact that my signature didn't match. Though, in my case, my school's accountant was conducting a bank run and doing the transactions for me. I think they were more cautious because I wasn't there.
Cairogal:
I think I just do not like banks.. I want to go back to the days of getting my allownace in cash from my dad's wallet and life was good!! ;o)
Juka:
Ouch.. 3 other banks and not a single decent one? Hmm... I have not heard a good story about a bank,a nd I have a lot of friends that work in banks. I say we all just stash the cash in a desk drawer or something because this doesn't look too positive! ;o)
Sherif:
I think you might be one of the few people who knows exactly how much I love Egypt. I don't understand what you are trying to prove or achieve by this comment. You know I love it here more than the US...
Yes, Egypt can be fucked up at times. Yes, Egyptians can annoy the hell out of me.. and that is my right! And that does not mean I am an Egypt hater.. I am still here!
Now, being negative or positive about it is my own decision. I will write whatever I feel. I do not know why that is so hard for you to understand and/or deal with.
Now, I will not lie and change what I think or feel for the sake of bringing foreigners in. That is just living in denial. Ignoring things does not make them go away.
I think that the best way to help Egypt is to acknowledge that there is a problem so we can look at it and deal with it....
"I have a very good solution for you guys, why don't you go back to the beautiful countries were you came from????? "
I have a good solution for you.. if it bothers you so much.. why don't you just stop reading the blog?
"where pre-marital sex is everywhere, women are abused, school shootings, athiesm, using women to sell products, invading other countries, corrupt politicians, child abused by their parents, relatives, and priests,
and the list goes on....."
I wish you knew that all of these things happen in Egypt. You just don't know how Egypt is changing....
"I think Egypt will be better off without you.."
I will not even acknowledge this with one of the many replies that I thought of...
"they always say positive changes start from the home, try and do that in your home and circle of friends and may be things will get better....."
I am glad that you left Egypt to live in the states and you think that you are creating a positive change in Egypt...
Anyway, will not acknowledge this one either...
"if you want to help Egypt, stop negativity on the Internet, that COULD bring in more tourists and investors, and eventually things get better. "
Wow, I have faith that the Egyptians can solve their problems and make their country better. You think that we need the tourists and the investors to come so that things could get better. And you still think you love this country more?!?!?
"If we trash Egypt on the Internet, we are adding to the problem and not fixing it...Anyway what satisfaction do you get by publishing all this negativity???"
Trashing Egypt on the internet adds to what problem. My problem was the fact that I walked out of a bank with money and they did not ask for ID or anything... Ohhh.. you mean the problem you keep trying to pin on me for a reason I do not understand. Well.. would you like to censor my blog. Maybe I could call or e-mail you before I post anything and make sure that it would trick those tourists into coming.
Ohhh.. maybe I can make some shit up too...
How would you like that?
Would that make it all better??
"by the way, this is Sherif, I am not going to publish this as Anonymous because this is so upsetting....I live in the US and LOVE IT, but that did not make me an Egypt hater..... "
By the way.. you always sign your comments....
I am not an Egypt hater either. You got an idea and you believed it.. regardless of what I say or do.....
I am not Egyptian, but I used to write software for a major Egyptian bank. While I was there someone started a major fraud scheme in which they duplicated customers' cards, stole their pins and then went abroad and started using those cards to withdrawal as much as possible. It turned out that the people at this bank were producing cards improperly and saving all pin numbers to file before printing them out. Someone got smart and saved the file and all of the card data. (A magnetic card is essentially a storage medium for computer data, the same way as, say, a floppy disk. The data can be copied the same way a floppy disk can.) So, it was an inside job, and the bank is to blame for this mass-theft. In typical Egyptian fashion, no one outside the bank found out what was happening, but tens of thousands of people lost money, sometimes thousands of dollars. In many cases these customers were very poor. If I were Egyptian I would ask my employer to pay me in cash.
Wow!!
When did that happen? Never even heard about it!!!
Things like this make going back to Egypt even harder!!
Dear Cairogal:
Yes, I too am an expat living in Cairo. Banks are too inexperienced and chaotic here to manage your funds. It's too bad your employer forced you into a bad banking relationship. Even HSBC, with their global mark, doesn't have intelligent people working for them in Egypt.
I send all my money to Bank of America and only write checks to myself for the little EG pounds I use every month. I suggest you do this too.
Let's see...only 9 more months until summer vacation!
Sherif.
I'm Egyptian living in EU, Egypt system sucks, if it wasn't you won't be living in the US in the first place.
There is corruption everywhere, but the level of corruption in Egypt I have never seen it elsewhere except maybe India, my wife is american and she wanted to us to move to Egypt, I told her there is no way.
Egypt business sucks, Government paperwork sucks, public transportation sucks, I'm sure you agree on this.
As you said, the change starts from home, it means it has to start from inside Egypt.
If you don't agree with me, and you think that Egypt is a wonderful country, why don't you back your stuff and leave the country that you think is corrupted and go back to your home??
You're saying women are abused in the US, aren't they abused on a daily basis in the streets, public transportation in Egypt?
pre-marital sex is everywhere in the US. Let me tell you in Egypt pre-marital sex is more, there are gays in Cairo more than NY, except everything is hidden in Egypt, everything is underground. No one wants to talk or bring the truth.
Banks in egypt = 0/5 they are the first reason of why there is no investment in Egypt!! they r the first reason of the great crisis in Egypt economy the funny thing that i created my bank account in NL by only one signature on one paper and thats it ...but in egypt 13 papers plus i had 2 mention all the banks and companies i work with and i write something like a confession that i will never get illegal money 2 the bank from outside egypt ...WTF is this ?! there is no respect for the customer or his privacy they know every thing about the account and how much i have ..bla bla bla really this is sucks ppl work there are freakin retards and for the dude who insult .... dude get life u must be son of a bank manger !! lol
